Today will be my 3rd soccer practice and my first time coaching alone since that first practice. I hope I can help this team get ready for their first game in just over a week.
By the way, I have now retrieved Anh, and we will be leaving in a couple days for Revelstoke and Tara and Craig's wedding in Vernon.
Hopefully, while in Revelstoke, we will get a chance to see Britt and Barry's new Baby- Samuel Hunchak. Here is their public Congratulations.
By the way, my sister, Tamara and her husband Josh have been updating their blog more frequently at last. Click the picture of my parents playing Wii to check it out. (This picture made me laugh so hard.)

hey there matt,
sorry, these practice tips might be coming way too late but better late than never. anyway, in my experience the things that always need the most attention with youth soccer in canada is fitness, positioning and first touch on the ball. Try to make the team keep its 'shape' meaning that they need to stay in formation and not bunch together. Get them doing passing drills that start at the goal keeper and work their way up the field. Fitness is pretty self explanatory. first touch and close control can never be practiced enough though. When they are receiving passes or running with the ball, make them work on keeping the ball as close to their feet as you can. Cause it can get away pretty fast (as you know). anyway if you have more questions or whatever give me an email.

Also the picture of your parents playing wii is incredible.
Thanks so much Dave! You are actually not too late. You are just in time. I have to lead our team for a practice in about an hour and a half from now. I will definitely use your tips. I have a drill in mind already for a passing drill working its way up the field. Cheers
I managed to get my parents to play most of the sports, but they never gave boxing a shot - it's a little too intense for where they're at. Your parents look like they've got a pretty good handle on it though.
Good luck with coaching, Matt - I find it a little more intimidating than any "church ministry" I've ever done. I'm scared out of my mind for (Canadian) football to start up here in a couple weeks. Since there's 6 of us coaching though, I'm hoping that I'll be able to blend in for the most part until I get the hang of it.
Ya, I never saw my parents play the Wii myself when I went to visit; it seems that it was pretty much a one-time deal. Apparently, my mom won that boxing match. After playing the Wii myself, would see it is fun for a party game (boxing and tennis being my more favorites).
Jon, I'd have to say I am grateful to say that coaching soccer is somewhat simpler than football' I don't envy you and that responsibility at all.
Wii had a lot of fun with you, anh and your family. It made me realize how much I miss my own. I'm not sure if it was the Wii or all the driving I did the next day that made my arm hurt so much. Either way it was worth it.
